We all know the ritual, the fourth Thursday of November comes around, we can’t wait to cook that HUGE meal, and then after three days, we can’t wait for the leftovers to be gone. We take mental stock of our lives over the past year, and we spend a few minutes giving thanks and counting our blessings. And then the rush of shopping and decorating for the winter holidays has officially begun. And this year shall be no different. So I guess you could call this my second “annual” Thanksgiving Blog.
The first thing for which I am truly thankful is my family without whom I could not do what I do ~ ...
<< MORE >> What if you are planning a ceremony earlier in the
day? Why not consider a brunch or luncheon reception?
Your venue coordinator or caterer should be able to help you create something just as stunning as a sit-down dinner.
Perhaps a brunch could include champagne mimosas and a fresh omelet bar. Maybe a luncheon bar could have stacked serving plates of finger sandwiches and a
colorful display of fresh ...
A very few select couples each year have a special reason for choosing their wedding date, such as the anniversary of their 1st date, or a grandparents’ 50th Anniversary. The rest of the couples start with a blank calendar with 365 possible dates looking back at them. What exactly are the pros and cons of each season, when living in the northern part of the U.S.? (Let’s face it, is there EVER a bad day to have a wedding in Hawaii?)

Every wedding has its own “feel” whether you are purposefully planning a theme or
allowing the setting to set the flavor. So, why not take that feel or flavor, and also let it influence your attire selection. Look at it
this way, the breezes of a beach wedding lend themselves to a groom in khaki’s and a short sleeve shirt and a bride in a flowy dress rather than a poofy princess gown and a black tux.
Now, go a step further, ...
<< MORE >> Planning a wedding is exciting and fun. There
are a lot of decisions to make, and a budget to stay within. It's easy to want every detail, every special touch. But money, after all, doesn't grow
on trees! So, exactly how does a newly engaged couple filter through
everything?
Well, our family is in the same boat as the rest of you… our daughter recently became engaged, and we are in the process of planning and budgeting. You would think since I am in the business, it would have been a “piece of (wedding) cake” so to speak, but you ...
<< MORE >> Today’s blog is from guest blogger Mary Beth Ryfun, owner of Koda Bridal in Pittsburg, PA.
She hears brides laughing and crying, and talking about their special day, but she had THIS to say about
getting married, priorities and saving money.
“In times like these, I understand saving money. Nobody who’s in business for
themselves will argue with
saving money when they can. I clip coupons. I make
coffee at home instead of hitting Starbucks on the way to work. The trick is to save money on the right ...
To see or not to see, (the bride before the ceremony) that has been the age-old question facing brides and grooms for centuries. But what is the correct answer for 21st century couples?
First, let’s look at the history of the tradition. WHY was it ever a custom to NOT see the bride before the wedding? The tradition began in the day of arranged marriages. Brides were “given” to the groom, as property. Most marriages were based on property boundaries, animal stocks, and royal lines. Often these marriages were arranged at the birth of the daughter, so that the parents would know their “obligation” to her would be limited. They were to take care of her until ...
<< MORE >>As a couple and as a family, we have always supported a variety of charities and organizations on whatever level we could. We don’t normally talk about it. We don’t donate to draw attention to ourselves.
That being said, 2011 is going to be different. So, let me start at the beginning.
Thanksgiving weekend of 2007, a dear friend of ours, Tammy Hockenberry, fell ill while preparing a party for her parent’s 50th Anniversary. She was taken to the hospital, and missed the party for which she had been preparing for so long. After more than three weeks in the hospital and several ...
